English: 3 view of Nieuport 12 built under licence in Scotland by Beardmore, who made a considerable number of minor modifications from the French designed Nieuport 12. The Beardmore Nieuports can be identified by the midspan locations of the roundels and the stripes on the elevators, and early examples had PC.10 uppers and clear doped linen sides. Modifications they made include a much heavier undercarriage, a fin, leading edge riblets, a redesigned horizontal tail, a new tailskid, and a full cowling that restricted cooling air so much that many cut it down. The top of the forward fuselage was also redesigned and a conventional instrument panel was installed, in contrast to Nieuport's practice of bolting instruments to structural members.
